Tutorial Cool is a live teaching platform. Teaching requires that a teacher can see a learner's work. This notice explains exactly who can see what, so there are no surprises.

The short version

Your instructor can see the work you produce in their class, as you produce it. Administrators of Tutorial Cool can enter any live class to observe, and in some cases they will not appear in the participant list. Every such visit is recorded.

What your instructor can see

While you are in a live class, your instructor can see:

• what you type on your answer page, as you type it
• what you write or draw on your live page, stroke by stroke
• your status, including whether you are working, idle, stuck, or have raised a hand
• how far through the task you are
• anything you hand in
• messages you send to your group

Your instructor can also write on your page to correct your work. When they do, their marks appear on your page in a different colour.

Your instructor cannot see your private notes.

What other students can see

Students in your group can see your group's shared board and the messages sent within that group. They cannot see your private page, your notes, or your individual work unless you put it on the group board.

Students not in your group see none of your work.

What administrators can see

Administrators employed by Tutorial Cool can enter any live class in progress. This exists so we can respond to a safety report, investigate a complaint, resolve a technical fault, or check teaching quality.

When an administrator observes a class, they may be hidden. They will not appear in the participant list, and neither the instructor nor any student will be told at the time. An observing administrator cannot speak, cannot use a camera, and cannot be heard.

An administrator can also:

• view any group's shared board
• remove a participant from a class, including the instructor
• pause a class so that nobody can speak
• end a class

We are telling you this plainly because you should know it before you join a class, not discover it afterwards.

What is recorded when an administrator observes

Every administrator visit is written to the class record, including who observed, which class, and when. That record cannot be edited or deleted by the administrator who made it.

Limits we place on ourselves

• Administrator access is restricted to employees whose role requires it
• Observation is for safety, quality, support, and legal compliance only
• Administrators do not observe classes for commercial or personal reasons
• We do not record live audio or video during observation
• Access records are retained and available for audit

If you are an instructor

Everything above applies to your class. An administrator may observe your teaching without appearing in the room. If you would like to know whether your class has been observed, write to us and we will tell you what the record shows.

If you teach for an institution

Where an institution licenses Tutorial Cool, that institution's own administrators may have access to their classes under a separate agreement. Your institution will tell you what that covers.

Reporting a concern

If something happens in a class that worries you — harassment, unsafe content, or behaviour toward a vulnerable person — report it to safety@tutorialcool.com. We review reports promptly and will tell you what we did.

Recording

We do not record live classes by default. If a class is to be recorded, everyone will be told before it starts and will be able to leave. Recording another person's class, voice, or likeness without permission is a breach of our Terms.
